Description

Ten years after the launch of the original XK range in 1968, the third series was introduced. Three engines were available; the six-cylinder 3.4 and 4.2-liters and the 5.3-liter V12. This was a time when Jaguars image was at a low point, but this was turned around and respect restored within a couple of years. There were range realignments in 1982 and 1983, when the Daimler name was dropped in Europe. The XJ40 replaced the six-cylinder cars in 1986 although the V12 cars remained in production.

This is a book of contemporary road & comparison tests, new model intros, technical data, buyers guide & long term reports. Models covered: 4.2, 3.4, 4.2 Automatic, Avon Estate, Daimler Sovereign 4.2, Arden, Jaguar Sovereign 4.2 manual & automatic, Vanden Plas 4.2, TWR, DMJ & Chasseur.

Test drive articles of this car model from English car magazines have been collected in the book. R&T = road and track, C&D = car and driver.
